Domain Dispute Digest Shows 16% Increase in UDRP Decisions

The newest issue of GigaLaw’s Domain Dispute Digest (Q3 2026) shows an increase of more than 16 percent in the number of decisions under the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP).

If the trend continues in the final quarter of the year, the number of UDRP cases at WIPO — the leading domain name dispute provider — will not only rise to the largest number ever, but it will have doubled over the past eight years.

Among other highlights from the 16-page Digest:

  • More than 95 percent of UDRP decisions were decided in favor of trademark owners.

  • The largest UDRP case involved 99 domain names and was filed by software company Workday, which also won a decision for 20 domain names.

  • WIPO remains the most active of the five UDRP providers, responsible for 1,400 of the 2,527 decisions (or about 55 percent).

  • As always, .com is the most common gTLD in UDRP cases, accounting for about two-thirds of all disputed domain names.

  • The number of decisions under the Uniform Rapid Suspension System (URS) skyrocketed 197 percent — though the increase was primarily attributable to three large cases (for 11, 13 and 22 domain names, filed by Tandy Leather, Valrhona and Decathlon, respectively).
