Domain Dispute Digest (Q1 2025): Decisions On-Track for Similar Year as 2024

Although the number of UDRP decisions and disputed domain names dropped in the first quarter of the year, 2025 is shaping up to have a similar number of disputes as in 2024 (the second-most active year ever for the UDRP), as the data in the current issue (Q1 2025) of GigaLaw’s Domain Dispute Digest makes clear.

As usual, the Digest also contains detailed data about the number of decisions at each of the five UDRP service providers, with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) continuing to account for about 58 percent of all cases, followed by the Forum, the Czech Arbitration Court (CAC), the Asian Domain Name Dispute Resolution Centre (ADNDRC) and the Canadian International Internet Dispute Resolution Centre (CIIDRC); as well as the transfer and cancellation rates at each provider.

Plus, the Digest includes information on the largest UDRP cases (228 domain names, filed by Novartis), the termination rate (10.25 percent), the top gTLDs (.com, .shop and .online), the top ccTLDs (.co, .ai and .cc), the most active trademark owners filing UDRP complaints (Carrefour, Arcelormittal, Novartis and Novomatic) and much more.

This issue of the Digest also includes details about an initial report on recommended changes to the UDRP by a joint project team from WIPO and the Internet Commerce Association (ICA); as well as a report from Doug Isenberg about the 25th anniversary of the UDRP.
