The nine-year increase in domain name disputes being filed by trademark owners shows no slowdown in the first quarter of 2023, with the number of reported decisions up more than 18 percent under the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP).
That’s just one of the many interesting data points in the newest issue (Q1 2023) of GigaLaw’s Domain Dispute Digest. More details here:
If the trend continues, the total number of domain name dispute cases at WIPO, the World Intellectual Property Organization, will top 6,000 for the first time this year. (As a reminder, WIPO handles disputes under other domain name policies in addition to the UDRP, but WIPO is the most active of all of six of the UDRP service providers, so its overall caseload is significant.)
This issue of GigaLaw’s Domain Dispute Digest now includes data from all of the active providers, including all offices of the Asian Domain Name Dispute Resolution Center. So, for the first time, the Digest offers insight into the relative caseload of all of the providers, with WIPO and the Forum together accounting for close to 90 percent of all cases.
