In episode number 9 of my YouTube masterclass on domain name disputes, I discuss why and how a trademark owner can include multiple domain names in a single complaint under the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP).
Watch the video below or on the GigaLaw YouTube channel.
As I explain, large UDRP complaints can make the process incredibly more efficient and cost-effective for trademark owners.
In addition, I talk about the factors that UDRP panels consider in deciding whether to allow “consolidation” — when multiple domain names are registered to different entities that, as one UDRP panel wrote, “may be considered as aliases for a single person or entity.” These consolidation factors include:
Registrants’ identities
Registrants’ contact information
IP addresses
Websites
Nature of marks
Naming patterns
Language or script
Similar behavior
Although large UDRP complaints are the exception (the average number of domain names per complaint is about 1.6, and most include only one domain name), trying to identify multiple domain names that belong to a single holder is important to ensure the best result possible when filing a domain name complaint.
