WIPO is an agency of the United Nations that helps governments, businesses and society realize the benefits of intellectual property. Its Arbitration and Mediation Center is the leading provider of domain name dispute services.

The meeting included presentations and discussions on important issues related to domain name disputes, especially current developments in the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) and the impact of the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

More than 100 domain name panelists from 31 countries attended the WIPO meeting.

Doug serves as a domain name panelist for WIPO as well as for the Forum (formerly the National Arbitration Forum), the Czech Arbitration Court, and the British Columbia International Commercial Arbitration Centre. Doug has written about 300 decisions in his role as a panelist.

In addition to serving as a domain name panelist, Doug regularly represents clients in domain name disputes under the UDRP, the Uniform Rapid Suspension System (URS) and various policies that apply to country-code top-level domains (ccTLDs).

Doug Isenberg Interviewed on 'Six Things Every Magician Should Know About U.S. Copyright Law'

Doug Isenberg was interviewed extensively for an article in GeniiOnline, "Six Things Every Magician Should Know About U.S. Copyright Law."

GeniiOnline is the online version of Genii magazine, which was founded in 1936 and is one of the leading magazines for professional and amateur magicians.

The author of the article interviewed Doug in detail about the following topics:

  • Copyright law doesn’t protect ideas, but rather expressions of that idea.
  • It’s hard to talk about hypothetical situations, because each case is determined by the specific facts presented.
  • Someone also needs “access” to the original work to be considered in violation of copyright.
  • Fighting copyright claims is very expensive, often providing little return for your trouble.
  • There are steps you can take to protect yourself that are cheap (or even free!).
  • Copyright is not meant to protect your work before it’s stolen.

Doug, a magic enthusiast, also spoke earlier this year about copyright law protection for magicians at the Magi-Fest convention in Columbus, Ohio, and was interviewed on the "Magic Word Podcast."
