The seminar, conducted via telephone, is organized by Law Seminars International. The TeleBriefing will educate companies about their options for filing oppositions to specific domain name applications, how to protect their rights by participation in ICANN's new Trademark Clearinghouse, and how the existing Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) and the new Uniform Rapid Suspension System (URS) will apply.

Doug Isenberg Offers "Three Things Trademark Owners Learned on ICANN’s ‘Reveal Day’"

Soon after revealing the list of 1,930 potential new global top-level domain names (gTLDs), ICANN tried to reassure trademark owners that they will be protected as the gTLD applications are evaluated (starting in July) and after the approved gTLDs become active (next year).

While trademark owners may disagree with how effectively their brands will be protected, ICANN emphasized what CEO Rod Beckstrom called “extensive intellectual property provisions” in the new gTLD program. Although no new trademark provisions were announced on ICANN’s “Reveal Day” disclosing the applied-for gTLDs (nor were any expected), at least three important lessons were learned.

10 Things Trademark Owners Should Do on ICANN’s Domain Name ‘Reveal Day’

After years of planning, months of applying and weeks of delays, ICANN is set to disclose the identities of approximately 2,000 new applied-for global top-level domain names on June 13, 2012 — a date known as “Reveal Day.” Even in advance of Reveal Day, a number of applicants have disclosed their choices, including .docs, .sucks, .web, .bank, .gay and many more.  This long-coming expansion of the domain name system is one of the most important changes that has taken place online since perhaps the creation of the World Wide Web itself.

Reveal Day is likely to create a lot of confusion among all except those who have followed these developments most closely.
