Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) signed a new law that defines deepfakes as digital forgeries and establishes criminal penalties for nonconsensual digital impersonation. Shapiro signed SB 649, making nonconsensual digital impersonation a first-degree misdemeanor.
