FTC Member Launches 'Reclaim Your Name' Plan

The revelations this month about government surveillance programs that collect the phone logs of people in the United States and can monitor e-mail traffic abroad is provoking a larger debate on the rights of consumers to control the collection and sharing of data about them. Now Julie Brill, a member of the Federal Trade Commission, has proposed an industrywide initiative to give consumers access to their own records held by data brokers.
