Microsoft Discloses Law Enforcement Data Requests

Microsoft disclosed for the first time the number of government law enforcement requests it had received for data on its hundreds of millions of customers around the world, joining the ranks of Google, Twitter and other Web businesses in publishing regular transparency reports. The report, which Microsoft plans to update every six months, showed that law enforcement agencies in five countries — Turkey, the United States, Britain, France and Germany — accounted for 69 percent of the 70,665 requests Microsoft received during 2012.
