Google Seeks Patent for Digital Billboards

Google Inc. has filed a patent application for technology that would let it show advertisements and merchant offers on digital billboards and kiosks in retail settings, in a move that underscores the breadth of the Internet giant's off-Internet expansion plans. The patent application, which was filed with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office on Dec. 21, covers methods for setting up and managing outdoor display campaigns and for presenting merchant messages, including audio, video and print coupons, on devices based on their location.
