Judge Dismisses Website Defamation Cases Over "Publication"

The posting of a comment on a subscription-based Web site constitutes a single publication under New York state defamation law, a judge has ruled. The underlying issue was whether a posting constituted a single publication, in which case the statute of limitations had expired, or whether the act of accessing the comment constituted republication, thereby tolling the statute.
