Microsoft has reached a settlement with state and county regulators in a case alleging that the software giant violated state business practice laws when it offered a free trial period of its MSN Internet service to consumers who bought new computers. The suit arose from complaints received in San Mateo county more than three years ago, as a result of a Microsoft promotion at some Best Buy stores.
