Tech Companies Urge Congress to Pass Privacy Law

As consumer fear about the misuse or theft of personal information rises, some of Silicon Valley's technology heavyweights are pushing for a national law that would protect customers from fraud and themselves from a patchwork of inconsistent state and federal rules. EBay, Google, Hewlett-Packard, Intel, Oracle, Sun Microsystems and Microsoft are among nearly a dozen companies stepping into the privacy fight after years of shying away from a broad law.
