Tools for Detecting Sites' Safety Use Imperfect Technology

Several new Internet tools aim to make it safer for consumers to surf the Web by tagging search results on Google, Yahoo and elsewhere with small icons indicating whether the listed sites are a threat. But while the services are eager to placate Web surfers at a time when security concerns are rampant, they use imperfect technology and different methods to analyze sites.
