Doug Isenberg Speaks to Software Law Class

Doug Isenberg gave a live, virtual presentation on September 28, 2013, to a class at Washington University School of Law. The class, taught by Greg Kirsch of Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP, is titled "Intellectual Property Protection of Computer of Software." Doug's presentation, "The Intersection of Domain Names and Trademark Law," focused on the history of domain name disputes and current developments regarding new generic top-level domains, including the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP), the Uniform Rapid Suspension System (URS) and the Trademark Clearinghouse.

Doug holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Washington University.

Doug Isenberg Discusses Internet Law on 'High Velocity Radio Show'

Doug Isenberg was a guest on the "High Velocity Radio Show" on August 5, 2013. The show, hosted by Stone Payton and Lee Kantor, interviews "Top Performers Producing Better Results In Less Time." On the show, Doug spoke about current issues in Internet law, including cybersquatting and online copyright infringement. What You Really Need to Know About ICANN's Trademark Clearinghouse

In a new blog post at "Isenberg On Domains," Doug Isenberg writes about, "What You Really Need to Know About ICANN's Trademark Clearinghouse." In the post, Isenberg writes that:

  • Registering a trademark with the TMCH does not entitle you to any domain names.
  • TMCH participants are not guaranteed domain name registrations even during the sunrise periods.
  • The TMCH’s “Trademark Claims Service” won’t prevent cybersquatting.
  • The TMCH’s attenuated protections are limited to “exact matches” and other narrow criteria.

Doug Isenberg Attends Meeting of Anti-Cyberhate Working Group

Doug Isenberg, who recently joined the Anti-Cyberhate Working Group that was convened by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), attended a meeting of the group at Facebook's offices in Menlo Park, California, on March 22, 2013. As the ADL said in an announcement last year, the Anti-Cyberhate Working Group is composed of industry, academics, NGOs and others to "build best practices for understanding, reporting upon and responding to Internet hate."
